Pain and Gain

IDR -

Mucuna bennettii F.Muell., it has been my long-standing desire to draw this plant . A visit with the IDSBA Jabotabek team to Bogor Botanical Garden introduced me to it, and its blooming beauty was truly captivating. I started this artwork in response to an invitation to exhibit by an art supplies company. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, I couldn’t finish it.

The selection process for this subject was as complex as the process itself. The plant is highly clustered, intricate, and challenging. However, the journey behind creating this piece was not easy. This artwork bears witness to the many complexities that have unfolded in my life from October until today. Although not all can be disclosed here in detail, in the process of achieving life goals, there are many uncomfortable feelings celebrated. I vividly remember times when I had to complete this piece with uncontrollable tears. Naturally, I couldn’t finish it on time. How could I? The details of this story will always remain in my heart. But hopefully, the surrender and perseverance reflected in this artwork can inspire those facing hardships not to give up.

It was not easy to complete this Mucuna during tough times, but little by little, I kept working on it. It felt long and endless, but eventually, it was finished. From the perspective of meeting the exhibition invitation deadline, it was indeed late, but from today’s perspective, this artwork has found its place. So, perhaps it may seem unfinished, but it was completed just in time for this exhibition.
