Yellow of Life

IDR -

A friend who eventually decided to limit our meetings likes the colour yellow, especially sunflowers. In life, we often encounter intersections with others. These intersections come in many forms; I call them the colours of life. This time, the colour is yellow, represented by their favorite, the sunflower. Like the sun, yellow is a beautiful colour that we need, but unfortunately, we can’t look at it directly because it would be too dazzling. Just like us, our energies are very different. Many things about our personalities don’t match, often causing clashes when we face each other.

The process of creating this piece is a project reflecting on my encounters with them. I’m trying to learn from this encounter, including forgiving all the clashes, and most importantly, forgiving myself for often trying so hard to build something, only for it to collapse due to our mismatched energies. I forgive myself for the frequent clashes.

Our energies may be different, but life isn’t about being the same or different, right or wrong, or black or white. There are other colours, like yellow this time. So I say, “Our energies may be different, but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn from each other”. Like fire and water, two different elements that, under certain circumstances, water needs fire to boil itself so it becomes drinkable.

Indeed, it’s not easy to coexist with different energies in life, it requires a process to blend or utilize them. I also felt this difficulty when finishing this piece, reflecting, sometimes I gave up because the details were so complex, especially conquering the colour yellow wasn’t easy. However, my intention to make this piece a reflection of our encounter is so important. Finally, this is my first work in 2024.”
