“In the midst of misty waterfalls shimmering in the sunlight, that blue flower greeted my eyes. It grew alone on a single rock where the Blue Princess resides. On that rock, I sat with someone who once dwelled in my heart. This flower lives on the face of a rock, in the warm touch of the sun and the caress of the cool water breeze, amidst the gleam of Euphaea’s wings, both purple and green, abound….”
In drawing this plant, besides revisiting memories in my mind, I learned to restrain myself to be more patient, slow, and gentle with each layer of colour I applied. Sensitivity to colour was certainly honed, but something else became new to me in observing colours, which is accepting reality and that reality doesn’t always unfold according to personal expectations. Mixtures and layers of colours often produce unexpected new shades, providing understanding and knowledge. New understanding shatters what’s in the mind, teaching to be more sensitive in capturing colours and open to new possibilities that have never crossed this mind.
Look at this artwork from afar, as I saw it basking in the sunlight on that morning, then come closer and feel how you want to view it as you please.
