This one-of-a-kind plant caught my interest as a new species discovered by Randi A., Wijedasa L.S., and Thomas D.C. in 2022, within the peat swamp forest of Sumatra. Its bright, shining flower resembles a firework spark amidst the swamp forest, with its initial bright red colour gradually darkening to black on the tip as it matures. It all begins with tiny flower buds resembling white marbles filled with tiny bubbles, which transform into these large, wide sparks of red, almost as if signaling its own discovery.

Hervina Dyah Aprilia

Born in Pontianak on April 24, 1984, Hervina, usually called Vina, has always been fascinated by plants, especially trees. However, despite her fascination, she’s found herself struggling to keep even a cactus alive. Drawing trees has become her escape. With a background in Design and Digital Visual Effects, she spends most of her time in front of a computer screen or inside a studio. To maintain her sanity and overcome creative blocks, she often experiments with biomimicry. Despite her quirky passion for the art of botanical illustration, she finds solace in drawing and painting. In the midst of the digital era of communication, she finds peace in observing and capturing the colours and structures of plants, allowing them to inspire and deepen her understanding of biomimicry.
