Red Button Ginger

IDR -

Years ago, I found it puzzling to think that the attractive red parts of this button ginger, the parts that I thought were the flowers, were, in fact, not the flowers yet. Drawing this plant is such a reminder of the journey that the mind goes through in depicting plants, of which the first step is to assume a child-like wonder, letting go of assumptions, and taking the time to find out more about the plant before creating images of it. This is a useful principle in life, too, taking time to get facts in before making judgments helps in making informed decisions and fostering understanding.
