Hydrangea macrophylla (Thunb.) Ser.

56 x 38 cm

Watercolour on paper

2021

One Blessing

IDR -

This artwork began with an admiration for the multitude of colours found in clusters of flower petals. Upon closer observation, it was noted that these petals often displayed more than one hue, with varying bud colours as well. This native Japanese shrub can grow tall, reaching heights of around 1-2 meters and spanning widths of up to 2.5 meters. Its large, bluish or pinkish-hued petals tend to cluster abundantly. While presenting this plant with watercolour posed a challenge, it remained enjoyable. The intricacy of the clustered petals presented a particular difficulty for me, yet it also spurred me on to paint this plant more extensively.
