Helleborus ‘Double Ellen Red’ is the plant I chose as the subject of my botanical art piece because it is globally recognized. Its flowers appear simple yet elegant, with a creamy center contrasting beautifully with the dark plum petals. When painted, it produces visually stunning art that captivates the heart. I used Faber-Castell Watercolour Pencils on BC Tik White paper, and the completion of this piece took approximately 7 hours.
Helleborus ‘Double Ellen Red’ presents cheerful red blossoms resembling floating gems above the rough and dark foliage, bringing joy to anyone who happens to witness this phenomenon at the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Typically, after one year, these flowers can reach a maximum height of 40-50 cm. Moreover, they are perfectly suited for use as cut flowers in vases to complement home decorations.
This plant prefers moist, humus-rich, and fertile soil that does not dry out in summer or become waterlogged in winter. The message I aim to convey through my artwork of Helleborus ‘Double Ellen Red’ is that while its appearance may seem simple, it is precisely this simplicity that holds the high value and captivating visual appeal. Enough is good as a feast.
